Hadas Mandel, a professor at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Moshe Semyonov, a professor from Tel Aviv University and the University of Illinois at Chicago, co-authored "Family Policies, Wage Structures, and Gender Gaps: Sources of Earnings Inequality in 20 Countries." The work was published in the December 2005 issue of American Sociological Review, the flagship journal of the American Sociological Association.

By looking at the differences among 20 countries' family policies, the researchers found that gender earnings disparities are less pronounced in countries with developed family policies. Although "mother-friendly" policies enable more women to become economically active, they may also exacerbate gender occupational inequality.

The award is named for Rosabeth Moss Kanter, who has been identified by leading scholars as the person having the most influence on the modern research literature on work and family. The proposals contained in her 1977 monograph "Work and Family in the United States: A Critical Review and Agenda for Research and Policy" remain timely more than a quarter-century later.

No external nominations are accepted for the award. Instead, every article published in a large number of scientific journals is scrutinized by a large committee of esteemed scholars who generate a list of candidates for the award.

The researchers were honored on February 21, 2007, at the 11th Annual Work-Life Conference & Exhibition, in Phoenix, Ariz.

Past Kanter Award recipients have included: Naomi Gerstel and Natalia Sarkisian, Marybeth Mattingly and Susan M. Bianchi, and Michelle J. Budig. For more information about the Kanter Award and its past recipients, visit www.awlp.org/award.

Approaching Metaphysics Part 2
If we think about it we will realize that we are unable to take anything material with us to the higher worlds when we pass on. We are unable to take along with us our house, our money, our possessions, our titles, etc. What we do take along are things that are immaterial--our knowledge, our memories, our karma, our habits, our character, our spiritual and psychic development, our aspirations and desires. We can see from this that our purpose in this world, in this physical plane is in connection with those immaterial things mentioned above, and if--and metaphysics declare it to be so--evolution is a law of Nature, a Cosmic law, then our true purpose is to evolve, to improve and to purify those immaterial things. Our greatest opportunity in...

A new Documentary Presents Research Showing an Ancient Greek Philosopher Central to Forming Western Civilization was more than a Great Thinker; he was
By tracing Western Civilization back to its beginning, philosopher Peter Kingsley discovered a profound meaning within the creation of this society: The guiding principles that started this culture are as spiritual - indeed mystical - as they are practical. But in society's quest to embrace the concepts of reason and logic created at our beginning we have forgotten the heart at the center of those fundamental and essential teachings - until now. Finding Our Ancient Wisdom brings a new perspective to our modern, hectic world by taking us back to the beginning. Join philosopher/author Peter Kingsley as he explains what this ancient wisdom is and how it can be woven into our everyday lives.

Why Metaphysics? Part 2
Basically, arrogance is an inferior attitude masking as superiority. Inferiority or superiority complexes are both egoic expressions. The human ego often wishes the Self to appear what it is not. Even if we knew a lot, if we have read a thousand books, studied under countless Gurus, have permanent contact with a Cosmic Master, experienced a 1001 delights and terrors, meditate constantly, possess the world, or are powerful in some psychic way, it still does not give us a reason to egoically compare others with ourselves, or to judge them--by seeing others as inferior to us, by labelling them as bad, low, and vile. Many so-called spiritual teachers still do this. They criticize and condemn others without realizing that, spiritually speaking, ...
